By  |  0 Comments

At the end of 2015, I had the pleasure of interviewing an amazing rapper who has been featured on Black Talent TV many times and this phenomenal artist is Lusive! For those who do not know, “Lusive is a young urban man that is true to music and will prove to all, he is the next ‘star’ that will lead courageously.” He “has the ability to captivate an audience both big and small through his unique sound. His musical talents revitalize a style of refreshing conscious music with an explosive hip-hop flow blended with a touch of jazz.”

Lusive “started recording new music all over New York City by the age of 17 and dropped countless music videos since 2008. Seventeen Magazine introduced Lusive as an artist in 2005. In 2011, he finished his successful underground album called ‘Up in Smoke’. Lusive released his solo LP Stereotype in February 2012 and, in 2013, he released The Freelance mixtape.” Towards the beginning of 2015, Lusive released his single ‘Ain’t In My Way,’ which is off his recently released mixtape The Interlude.

1-Growing up in the North East Bronx, did you always know that you wanted to become a rapper or at least have a career in music?

Yes. I was influenced by the culture of Hip Hop in NYC. However, I always was into sound and creation of music because I play the piano and violin.

2-Who are some of your favorite rappers?

Tupac, Fabolous, Jadakiss, and I appreciate the new underground hip hop scene in NYC.

3-If you had the chance, which artists(rappers/singers) would you love to work with? Why?

A few artists that I would like to work with are Will.i.Am, Wale, Wyclef(Jean), Wiz Khalifa, and Sade.

4-Your new mixtape, The Interlude, is out. What can fans expect?

Fans can expect a fresh new sound coming from someone from The Bronx. You will experience different aspects of life and you can expect four visuals. You will expect more of my music after this mixtape.

5-What’s been your favorite song to record?(on/off of the newest mixtape) Why?

“Hella Lit” was one my favorites because I was creating a new energetic track. I felt like I was re-recording “Ain’t In My Way” again.

6-You really took a stand against police brutality with your song “Rally.” What ultimately made you decide to make a song about it?

I feel like being a minority in society I felt like I dealt with the same issues. Through the platform of music, I was able to convey various police brutality situations such as Mike Brown and Trayvon Martin. I was working with a group of producers, who produced a filmed called the American Beat Boxers, who inspired me to discuss police brutality and injustice in our community through this song.

7-Currently, it seems like there’s a lot of rappers starring in reality shows. Would you ever consider doing a reality show? If so, what would it be?

I would definitely do a reality show since it’s a platform that will help bring exposure. However, a reality TV show about me and my team would be best because we always experience something funny or comedic throughout our music career.

8-What advice do you have for anyone wanting to become a rapper or just want to get into the music business?

I believe majority of artist must have work ethic and must perfect their craft.

9-What is NEXT for Lusive?

You will see way more of me in 2016. I am really focusing on my music and my modeling career for the next year. There’s no limit to what I can do when I put my mind and heart into it.
