A new web series has recently premiered and if you’re fans of singer Verse Simmonds or even rapper Fabolous’ Soul Tape 3 mixtape, then you understanding the meaning of this show’s title! Created and directed by Cylla Senii, Situationships is a “dramedy exposing the twists and turns of millennial dating…or rather lack thereof. The show highlights eight young people in New York City who find themselves ‘talking’ to people, dating people, having relations with people, but ultimately having no title with their partners. They aren’t in your traditional ‘relationship’ — they are actually in a ‘situationship.’”
For those who don’t know, the term “situationships” is “any problematic relationship characterized by one or more unresolved, interpersonal conflicts, usually confused with dating and typically based off a situation – ie. friends with benefits; people who are a ‘thing’; a relationship with no label or title on it; a friendship but more than a friendship, but not quite a relationship.” The main eight characters are “journeying through life, love, and the complicated ‘relationships’ they encounter” and these characters range from the “side guy” who is happy with no commitments to the “good girl” who always dates the wrong guys. I think it’s safe to assume that this show will be relatable in the sense that most people have been in a “situationship” at least once in their life.
Written and executive produced(along with Senii) by Kevin Green and produced by Brandon Brathwaite, Situationships stars Cylla Senii, Tarion Taylor, Amylee Sanchez, Sean Martin, Nicolette Ellis, Jonathan Iglesias, Allison Frasca, and Korey Graham.
