For TV networks, a new year means new shows and one of the new shows for BET is The Quad. For those who don’t know, The Quad, which airs every Wednesday at 10pm ET on BET, “follows ambitious yet troubled Dr. Eva Fletcher, the newly-elected President of the fictional Georgia A&M University. Upon arriving, Eva is charged with saving the prestigious HBCU from bankruptcy and her twenty-year marriage from crumbling while managing a tumultuous relationship with her rebellious only daughter. A diverse group of freshman also promises to keep Eva’s hands full.”
Recently, I got the chance to interview one of the stars of The Quad and that talented person is Zoe Renee. In The Quad, Renee stars as Noni Williams alongside a stellar cast of actors & actresses including Anika Noni Rose, Jasmine Guy, and Ruben Santiago-Hudson. Check out my interview with Renee where she discusses The Quad, how she got the role of Noni, what actor/actress she would love to work with, and more below.
1-How did you first get into acting?
I got into acting about 10 years ago. I did an acting camp with Geoffrey Owens when I was 9 years old and from then on, I had the bug.
2-You star as Noni Williams on The Quad. How did you become part of this series?
I am so excited about playing the role of Noni Williams. I auditioned for the part back in August of 2016 and when I read the script, I believed wholeheartedly that I was meant to play Noni. A couple of weeks later, I got a call from my agent and manager telling me I got the part. It was such a dream come true.
3-The Quad also stars Anika Noni Rose, Jasmine Guy, & Ruben Santiago-Hudson. How was it being on a project with such top notch actors?
OMG! It is such an honor to just watch them in action. They are such professionals. I have learned so much from all of them. The biggest thing that I’ve learned from them is that there’s nothing wrong with asking for what you need/want, just don’t be a jerk about it.
4-How would you describe your character, Noni?
Noni is an overachiever. She is smart, thoughtful, kind, but she has a little dark side.
5-Are there any similarities between you and Noni?
Noni and I are very similar, except for the dark side.
6-What can fans expect from The Quad?
You can expect a lot of issues that relate to things going on in our world-as well as a lot of DRAMA!
7-Which actor and/actress would you love to work with in the future? Why?
I would love to work with Viola Davis. She is such an amazing actress. I know that I could learn so much from her.
8-What is your dream role?
My dream role is to star in a Marvel film.
9-What advice would you give to someone who wants to get into acting?
My advice to anyone wanting to get into acting would be to put the work in. Get into an acting class with different schools. Audition as much as you can.
10-What is NEXT for Zoe Renee?
The next thing I’m working on is an independent film called Jinn. After that, I will be back in acting classes, working to get to the next level.
