Black Lightning fans around he world are gearing up for the show to premier on January 16th. Created by Salim and Mara Brock Akil (Being Mary Jane, The Game), Lightning looks and feels different than most superhero we are used to seeing. Choice Skinner, a huge fan went all out by creating his own Black Lightening Fan film -Tobias ‘s Revenge.
Tobias’s Revenge was filmed in the spring/summer of 2016 for a total of 7 days and completed in November 2017. It was funded out of pocket by several actors who star in the short, including the director/lead actor Choice Skinner. All VFX and compositing were supervised and completed by James M Black Choice Skinner & Chase Baker. The short’ main cast stars award winning actor/director Choice Skinner as Black Lightning, James M. Black as “Static”, Dimitri Morantus as “Tobias Whale”, Jay Hunter as “Gangbuster” and Sachiko Ishida as “Lady Shiva”, Austin Uku as Holocaust and Chase Baker as Mayor Berkowitz. In November of 2017 The film picked up the award for “Best Fan Film” at the Urban Action Film Showcase and Festival in Manhattan New York and in December was honored at the Hollywood Film Festival at Paramount studios. In mid December 2017 the River City Underground Film Festival awarded Choice Skinner with “Best Male Actor” for his portrayal of Black Lightning / Jefferson Pierce and awarded Black Lightning – Tobias’s Revenge with “Best Short Film”. As the film continues on the festival circuit it has recently been added to the second round of short films to screen at the inaugural and prestigious Mammoth Film Festival in February.
