As some might know, Philadelphia is known for many things, such as being the home of the Liberty Bell, Declaration of Independence, and Philly Cheesesteaks. However, a dramatic web series set in the city of brotherly love plans to be added to that list. Created, directed, and produced by Christina Faith, Single & Anxious follows five college students caught in a triangle of love, lies, and crime.
Faith describes the web series as “Girlfriends meets A Different World and adopts The Wire.” She built the project from the ground up with fresh talent from Philadelphia, utilizing the city as a backdrop for the series. Single & Anxious portrays complex real-life issues of African American 20 something college students. Faith says that the main initiative is to write and produce stories about people of color and culture. Single & Anxious stars Milaya S. Gregory, Branden Brook, Daarinah Saafir, Fann Sanders, Don Cephas, Jerrick Medrano, and Brandon J. McLean as Karissa, T., Amaya, Tasha, Sebastian, Santos, and Je’Kob.
While Single & Anxious is currently in its second season, I’ve recently watched three episodes of the first season as a new viewer and I’m enjoying myself thus far. Faith did an amazing job of creating characters that are relatable. I even see a bit of my friends in a few of the characters, especially Karissa. I had a friend who was in a similar relationship as her and me & her other friends questioned her sanity for staying in that relationship. All in all, Single & Anxious thrives with relatable characters in thrilling & juicy storylines that keep viewers coming back for more.
Single & Anxious is the first project under Creative Thought Media, a full service media company and artist collective. The company is founded by Faith and her husband, photographer Allen Johnson. The web series, which also has a soundtrack that can be heard via Spotify and Apple Music, is running a #NetflixOrNah campaign where they hope to garner the attention of Netflix by having viewers/fans submit a request to add Single & Anxious to their platform.
