According to the dictionary, a “pretty boy usually has a naturally clean cut appearance, dresses well, and is very aware of his hair, skin, etc” and “constantly looks in the mirror to look perfect from head to toe.” However, the guys in a comedic web series are proving that being “pretty” can be very funny. Created and directed by Chance Calloway, Pretty Dudes focuses on a group of dudes in the greater Los Angeles area, self-categorized as pretty boys, who decide that their looks have ruined their romantic lives and they set out to reverse the curse. As Zario(Bryan Michael Nunez) deals with depression and the fallout from breaking up with his boyfriend, his five straight-identifying friends band together to find him the perfect love, each discovering truths about their own issues in the process. Besides Nunez, Pretty Dudes also stars Xavier Avila, Tae Song, Kyle Rezzarday, Yoshi Sudarso, and Olivia Thai.
Season one of Pretty Dudes premiered in May of 2017 and minutes into the pilot episode, I have to admit that I became an instant fan of this web series. Each guy is so different yet all have one thing in common—their “pretty boy” status is ruining any chance of romance. In the middle of the seasons, viewers are introduced to the woman of the crew, Eagle. Despite being in a committed relationship with a man, Eagle is tough cookie who fits in well with the rest of the guys.
In all, Pretty Dudes is a one a kind web series. When viewers are NOT hysterically laughing at the mishaps this group gets themselves into, their actually seeing the strength of friendship and the start of declarations. While Zario & Alexander(Rezzarday) happen to find a date or two, Ellington(Avila) thought he found love in his girlfriend. However, he comes to a revelation and decides to make a change, which somehow included a chance encounter with a former flame. Jay(Song) is the comic relief who becomes a full on wingman for Zario and Sunji(Sudarso) tries to follow his dreams. On top of that, Eagle(Thai) has to come to terms with lingering feelings for the other sex.
In episode one(titled “The Curse”) of Pretty Dudes, Jay introduces him and his friends who are all unlucky in love during a night out. Season two of Pretty Dudes is on its way but for fans in Los Angeles, the web series is hosting a fundraising celebration on Friday, February 23 where all the proceeds will go to the Seed&Spark crowdfunding campaign.
