From The Lyons Den to Lover’s Lane, the Victory Productions Network(VPN) has been putting in major work! Karlton T. Clay, filmmaker extraordinaire, has managed to release at least one web series each year, continuing his reign as one of the pioneers of black web series. So far, nine web series have been released under VPN, with the 8th and 9th projects being Bondage, which is in partnership with Nelson J. Davis’ Film Architectz production company, and Sweet Mahogany. The latter, which is in partnership with Alan Lux Studios, was the most recent addition in the VPN family. However, VPN reached a milestone with its 10th and newest web series, My Best Friend.
My Best Friend focuses on the everyday relationship of a man and his girlfriend, but his world is turned upside down when he finds out that his girlfriends’ best friend is a guy. Even though this situation isn’t necessarily a unique one, Clay is taking a different approach with this one. VPN’s 10th web series stars Shatareia Stokes, Danny Bussey, and Jamarious McCullough. Along with its milestone, a new addition is added to the typical VPN scheduling. On top of every new episode premiering on Monday’s via the VPN YouTube page, Clay shares that the network “will also now be premiering each episode on our Victory Productions Facebook and the show’s Instagram page.”
Episode one of My Best Friend premiered this past Monday and it was a fantastic start to what’s going to be a VERY interesting web series. After Janet(Stokes) told Damien(Bussey) that she was inviting her best friend over, Damien assumed that it would be a girl, which isn’t a surprise since most people would as well. However, now that the cat is out of the bag that Stacy(McCullough) is a man, this raises more questions. With how close both Janet & Stacy are, did they ever date in the past? Is Stacy secretly in love with Janet? Does Stacy know more secrets about Janet than Damien does or ever will? I’m sure the rest of the season will answer these questions and more.
Nonetheless, episode one of My Best Friend was great and I cannot wait to see what happens next with the three main characters.
