Dutch Christian humanist Desiderius Erasmus Roterodamus said, “There are some people who live in a dream world, and there are some who face reality; and then there are those who turn one into the other.” For the main character in LaTrice Amanda’s short film A Dream Deferred, Erasmus’ quote definitely applies to her. Produced and written by Amanda, A Dream Deferred follows Yemaya, a lucid dreamer, who finds comfort existing in a 5thdimensional realm, where she is energetically connected to her one and only true love, London. Directed and co-produced by Mike Lee, A Dream Deferred stars Amiss O’Mega, Joshua Grant(aka GRYD), Zaneta Johnson, Katrina Johnson, Nike’sa Lewis, and LaTrice Amanda as Yemaya.

Recently, I had the pleasure of viewing A Dream Deferred and my only takeaway is that this short film will make viewers feel like they’ve been in a “love dream.” Basically, the viewers will feel like they’ve been in a dream world centered around nothing but love. Each scene featuring Yemaya and London felt like a fantasy, sci-fi scene. Lead actors Amanda & O’Mega have great chemistry that truly reflects in their scenes.

While most of A Dream Deferred finds Yemaya in the 5thdimensional realm, one scene finds her hanging out with her girlfriends but the topic is still centered around love. Their conversation focuses on whether or not men “love” the way that they do and then the girls discuss whether or not they have actually been in love. The conversation is pretty funny and is a good break before Yemaya goes back into her 5thdimensional realm. All in all, A Dream Deferred is fantastic and definitely teaches a good lesson: “Cherish the ones you love now because they could be gone tomorrow.”

While the release of A Dream Deferred is being held under wraps, check out the trailer below.
