At the end of July 2019, VH1 premiered a new real estate docu-series, Love & Listings, that opened “the doors to the glamourous and scandalous lives of Southern California’s young, ambitious real estate agents and their elite celebrity clientele, such as Amber Rose, Ray J, Jermaine Dupri, Jordin Sparks, Brandy, Laz Alonso, and more.” Not long ago, Black Talent TV interviewed one of the series’ stars, Ajani Scott. According to her bio per VH1, Ajani “is a part-time waitress struggling to fulfill her dream of becoming a celebrity real-estate agent.” On top of that, Ajani is also a Spanish singer.

Check out our interview with Ajani Scott where she talks about how she joined Love & Listings, whether she would come back for a season two, what’s next for her, and more below.

1-At what point did you first realize that you wanted to be a real estate agent?

LA, being much more expensive than anticipated, I was searching for a job where I could make large lump sums of money. Also, I did not want a career where I was confined to a desk and office, nor did I want a set dictated schedule. Real estate checked all of those boxes for me! I initially fell in love with the glitz, glamour, and status that comes with LA real estate but that quickly turned into a respect for the business—all of the hard work, time, and dedication required to actually become successful.

2-What are some techniques that you believe make you stand out from other real estate agents?

What sets me apart from other agents is the fact that I like to incorporate who I am and my personality into my business. I am a professional, of course, but I like to express myself as well through fashion, singing, modeling, etc. There are many layers and dynamics to me beyond just being an agent and I believe that makes me more personable and relatable.

3-How did you become part of Love & Listings?

The producers of the show found me through Instagram! Once I got my real estate license, I was so proud of myself that I was hash-tagging all things that had to do with real estate on every picture that I posted. It turned out that the VH1 producers were actually looking for a young black woman in real estate and they contacted me to interview for the show! After a long grueling process, I was officially casted!

4-Were you reluctant to do reality TV?

Not long before being casted on Love & Listings, I prayed for change. Nothing specific, just change. When this opportunity arose, I believed it was the answer to that, especially since it was not something I was seeking. It came to me, and that is so rare! I was at first nervous to do reality TV because I wasn’t sure how it worked. Was is it scripted? Could I be myself? Would I be comfortable enough to be open to possible scrutiny? I decided to proceed with the show because I believed I had a story to tell. And, once I knew that the story portrayed would actually be my truth, I looked at it as an opportunity to influence and inspire in a positive way.

5-For those who have yet to see Love & Listings, what can they expect?

Love & Listings is about a group of LA realtors with different ethnic backgrounds and unique backstories who are friends, colleagues, and sometimes much more! It explores our personal lives and business lives and the challenges that arise when those lanes cross.

6-If Love & Listings was renewed for a second season, would you be open to coming back?

I would definitely be open to coming back for a season two of Love & Listings. I have learned so much about who I am, the woman I want to aspire to be, and what I want for my life. It has been an overall positive experience, a challenge that has helped me grow personally, and I’d like to continue the opportunity to be a positive influence.

7-Besides being a licensed realtor, you are also a Spanish singer. Who are your biggest influences?

Yes, singing in Spanish is my first love and passion! My biggest influences are Selena, Shakira, Celia Cruz, La India, Marc Anthony, and Hector Lavoe.

8-Do you have any plans to release some original music in the near future?

I am working on original music right now! It’s important that I take the time to put out music that I believe in and means something to me as an artist. With that said, I don’t have a date or deadline for when I will release the music, but it is certainly in the works and I am so excited about the project! Be on the lookout!

9-What advice would you give to someone who wants to pursue a real estate career?

When breaking into the real estate business, it is wise to have enough money to sustain you for six months to a year so that you can focus solely on your career and building your business. Also, it is important to have a mentor or join a team because it can be very difficult to learn everything on your own and costly to make unnecessary or avoidable mistakes in the beginning due to lack of experience.

10-What is NEXT for Ajani Scott?

NEXT for Ajani Scott is 1. Continuing to strengthen my business as a realtor! 2. Creating music that is meaningful to me and others! 3. All-natural skincare line! 4. Securing a print modeling contract! I am so optimistic for what the future holds and I can’t wait to surprise myself with how much I can accomplish!!
